CHARIKAR, Afghanistan, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) — Local authorities began asphalting a major road in Charikar city, the capital of east Afghanistan’s Parwan province, on Sunday, the provincial government said in a statement on Monday.

Funded by the Ministry of Public Work, the project at a cost of 46 million afghanis (about 630,000 U.S. dollars) would cover 11,150 square meters including an intersection in Charikar city and some streets nearby, the statement said.

In addition, Afghan authorities have started construction of a water supply network in the northern Balkh province, and built a hydropower plant in the eastern Wardak province and asphalted a road in the southern Uruzgan province recently.

As part of efforts to rebuild war-torn Afghanistan, the Afghan caretaker government has launched a variety of development projects, calling on national and international companies to invest and create job opportunities for poverty-stricken Afghans. Enditem
