NEW DELHI, May 18 (Xinhua) — At least 12 people, including five women and seven men, were killed and another one was injured when a wall collapsed in India’s western state of Gujarat on Wednesday, confirmed the local police over phone.

According to a local cop, the mishap occurred at Halvad area of Morbi district of Gujarat, when a wall of an under-construction building suddenly collapsed. All the victims were laborers working at the site.

The rescue work is still on. The lone injured person was admitted to a local hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the mishap. “The tragedy in Morbi caused by a wall collapse is heart-rending. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families,” tweeted Modi. Enditem
