RIGA, July 28 (Xinhua) — Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar arrived in Latvia Thursday to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation and regional security, the Latvian Defense Ministry said.

Speaking at a joint press conference following talks with his Turkish counterpart, Latvian Defense Minister Artis Pabriks told reporters that Latvia is interested in military-industrial cooperation with Türkiye.

The meeting between the two defense ministers covered a number of topics concerning bilateral military-industrial cooperation, the Latvian minister said, noting that the Turkish military industry is among the strongest on the continent.

Akar described the talks with his Latvian counterpart as constructive and added that they had also talked about the situation in Ukraine.

He voiced support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, saying Türkiye is against the escalation of the conflict and wants it to be resolved in a diplomatic way.

Türkiye, a NATO member, is involved in strengthening Baltic security by participating in a NATO-led air policing mission. Enditem
