MADRID, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) — Struggling Levante sacked coach Paco Lopez on Monday after taking just four points from their first eight La liga matches.

Lopez leaves the club after four seasons at the helm of the Valencia based outfit, which has seen them win 49 games, draw 41 and suffer 57 defeats. Nobody has coached Levante in La Liga for more than the 147 games he was in charge for.

The sacking follows a 1-0 defeat to Mallora which leaves Levante third from bottom of the table, just above Alaves and Getafe.

In the statement confirming Lopez’s departure, the club reviewed Lopez’s term as a player at the club in the 1994-95 season and also as the coach of Levante’s B-team before taking over the first team in March 2018.

“His time as coach, with 147 games in charge, was marked by the achievement of several historic achievements. Paco Lopez leads the list of coaches with the most wins in Primera Division and is the coach who has directed the club on most occasions and also Levante were able to play in the semi-final of the Copa del Rey (last season),” said the club.
