SEOUL, May 16 (Xinhua) — South Korea’s automotive export logged a double-digit growth last month due to robust demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed Tuesday.

Car shipment soared 40.3 percent from a year earlier to 6.16 billion U.S. dollars in April, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The number of exported vehicles was 247,399 in April, up 25.3 percent from the same month of last year.

Export for eco-friendly cars jumped 55.8 percent to 2.05 billion dollars, while the number of exported such vehicles surged 33.7 percent to 63,824.

The number of vehicles manufactured in local factories gained 24.7 percent from a year earlier to 382,265 in April.

The number of cars sold in South Korea, including locally-made and imported vehicles, was 149,374 in April, up 4.3 percent from a year earlier. Enditem
