SEOUL, May 23 (Xinhua) — South Korean workers’ hourly wage logged a double-digit growth last year due to higher wages and lower working hours, the labor ministry said Tuesday.

The total hourly wage per worker at companies with one or more employees stood at 22,651 won (17.3 U.S. dollars) in June 2022, up 14.4 percent compared to the same month of last year, according to the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

It was attributed to the lower working hours and the hike in the total wage, which increased 7.8 percent.

The total hourly wage of regular workers gained 15.0 percent to 24,409 won (18.6 dollars), while that of non-regular workers expanded 11.3 percent to 17,233 won (13.1 dollars).

The hourly wage of non-regular employees represented 70.6 percent of the wage for regular workers in 2022, down 2.3 percentage points from the previous year.

The total working hours per worker came in at 154.9 hours in June last year, down 9.2 hours from a year earlier.

The working hours for regular workers went down 11.2 hours to 169.0 hours in the cited period, while the working hours for irregular employees shed 3.7 hours to 111.7 hours. Enditem
