BEIJING, May 17 (Xinhua) — At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will attend the China-Central Asia Summit and pay a state visit to China from May 18 to 19.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, 66, was born on July 24, 1957, in Jizzakh Region.

He graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1981. He holds a Ph.D. in Technical Sciences.

He lectured and conducted academic research at the Tashkent Institute of Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanization of Agriculture from 1981 to 1990.

From 1992 to 1996, he became Tashkent’s Mirzo Ulugbek District governor. From 1996 to 2003, he successively served as the governor of the Jizzakh Region and the Samarkand Region.

He was appointed Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan in December 2003 and subsequently re-approved three times in his post in February 2005, January 2010 and February 2015.

Mirziyoyev was elected President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in December 2016.

In October 2021, Mirziyoyev was re-elected President.
