TEHRAN, March 31 (Xinhua) — Iranian police on Friday announced the seizure of the fifth large batch of narcotics in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan over the past seven days, according to the official news agency IRNA.
The batch contained 857 kg of opium and was seized in some simultaneous operations across the province over the past 24 hours, IRNA quoted Sistan and Baluchestan’s Police Commander Doostali Jalilian as saying.
He noted that in addition to the seized opium batch, the police forces confiscated four cars and a motorcycle from the traffickers.
According to the IRNA, this batch of drugs seized by Iranian police is the fifth large seizure in the province in the past seven days. On March 24, the anti-narcotics police seized 1.66 tons of drugs and arrested four traffickers.
Two days later, the provincial police arrested four traffickers and seized 1.295 tons of opium after an armed clash. On Monday, the provincial police commander announced that they had seized 1.08 tons of narcotics in Sistan and Baluchestan. A day later, the police announced the seizure of 1.2 tons of illegal drugs.
