MANILA, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — The Philippines reported 17,964 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, bringing the Southeast Asian country’s confirmed cases to 2,179,770.

The DOH also reported 168 coronavirus-related deaths, raising the country’s death toll to 34,899. On Thursday, the DOH reported its highest ever daily tally, with 22,820 cases.

“Nationally, the Philippines remains to be at high-risk case classification,” the DOH said in a statement.

“While the two-week growth rate decreased, it still showed positive growth, meaning numbers are still increasing, albeit at a slower rate,” the DOH added.

The Philippines, which has around 110 million population, has tested over 18 million people since the outbreak in January 2020. Enditem
