WASHINGTON, June 30 (Xinhua) — A member of the rescue mission told U.S. media Wednesday morning that more bodies were found overnight in the debris of a beach-side condominium in Surfside, Florida, that collapsed last week.
“At the last 12 hours we found some more people,” said Golan Vach, commander of the Israeli National Rescue Unit, which was offering assistance to its U.S. counterparts on site. “We found people. Unfortunately, they are not alive.”
Vach would not give an update as to exactly how many bodies were newly discovered because the next-of-kin have not been notified.
Maor Elbaz Starinsky, Israel’s consul general in Miami, had said earlier that he believed 20 Israeli nationals were missing in the disaster.
As of Tuesday, the official death toll from the partial collapse of Champlain Towers South stood at 12, and there were 149 people who remained unaccounted for. Enditem
