LONDON, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) — Manchester City on Monday completed the signing of 21-year-old Spanish left back Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht for a reported fee of 11 million pounds (13.3 million U.S. dollars).

The youngster, who made 49 appearances for the Belgian club last season, has signed a four-year deal, with Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola confirming that he will not be sent out on loan this season.

Gomez was the club’s second option after failing to sign Marc Cucurella, who ended up joining Chelsea from Brighton and he will help cover for the loss of Oleksandr Zinchenko, who joined Arsenal over the summer.

Speaking last week, Guardiola commented that Gomez had an excellent pedigree, starting in the FC Barcelona youth system before moving to Borussia Dortmund and on to Anderlecht, where he worked with former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

Speaking on the Man City website, Gomez said he was “incredibly proud and happy to have joined Manchester City.”

“City are the best team in England and in Pep Guardiola I have a chance to learn and develop under the most outstanding manager in world football.”

“To be able to be part of this club is a dream come true for me and something any young player would aspire to.”

“Playing for and being guided by Pep and his coaches is going to be very special,” he commented. Enditem
