MACAO, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) — China’s Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will speed up efforts to push for economic recovery and promote appropriate economic diversification in the coming year, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said on Tuesday when delivering a policy address for fiscal year 2023.
Speeding up economic recovery relies first on restoring the vitality of Macao’s comprehensive tourism and leisure industry, said Ho, who pledged to effectively implement the mainland’s measure of facilitating tourist travel to Macao while keeping the epidemic under control.
Ho noted that the Macao SAR government will earmark an initial budget of 22.3 billion patacas (about 2.8 billion U.S. dollars) for public construction projects such as infrastructure and public housing in an effort to expand internal demand and improve people’s livelihood.
The Macao SAR government will be committed to the policy of building Macao into a world tourism and leisure center while continuously promoting the development of other major industries including health, modern finance, hi-tech, conventions and exhibitions, and culture and sports, Ho stressed.
He also promised to assist small and medium-sized enterprises to overcome the current difficulties, and nurture more local talents and attract talents from elsewhere back to the Macao SAR. Enditem
