RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — Luis Suarez remained non-committal about his future after leading Gremio to a 1-0 home win over Bahia in Brazil’s Serie A championship on Saturday.

Suarez continued his prolific form with a late strike at Arena do Gremio as the Porto Alegre club moved to within three points of leaders Botafogo with six match days remaining.

His strike prompted Gremio fans to chant Suarez’s name as they urged the 36-year-old Uruguayan striker to remain at the club next year.

“You have to enjoy the moment and that’s what I’m trying to do,” the former Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid forward said after the match.

“We are winning games and the fans are getting behind us. There’s a great feeling at the club for that reason.”

Suarez has scored 23 times and provided 16 assists in 48 games across all competitions since joining Gremio from Uruguay’s Nacional in January.

Despite initially signing a two-year deal with the club, Suarez will be free to leave in December after renegotiating his contract in July.

Media reports have linked him with a move to Inter Miami, but Suarez refused to say where he might be in 2024.

Instead, he preferred to focus on Gremio’s hopes of overhauling Botafogo to secure their third Brazilian top flight crown.

“We don’t want to stop dreaming,” Suarez said. “If you have a chance to fight for the title, you have to believe that you can do it.

“It doesn’t just depend on us. It depends on Botafogo. They have had a great season but in football you never know what might happen.” Enditem
