TOKYO, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) — Japan’s Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma has been named the 2022 Player of the Year by the Japan Pro-Footballers Association (JPFA) on Wednesday.

Japan’s state news agency Kyodo said that the 25-year-old led the votes by 1,654 male members of JPFA.

Mitoma rose to fame at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he set up the winner during a 2-1 comeback win over Spain in the group stage.
