JERUSALEM, June 29 (Xinhua) — The number of active COVID-19 cases in Israel rose to 1,660, the highest since April 26, said the Israeli Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

It reported 302 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total infections in the country to 841,486. The death toll from the virus stood at 6,429, while the number of patients in serious condition increased from 21 to 22.

The total recoveries from the disease in Israel rose to 833,397 after 68 newly recovered cases were added, the ministry said.

The number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 in Israel reached nearly 5.58 million, or 59.8 percent of its total population, it added.

Earlier in the day, eight Israeli passengers were removed from a flight to Russia after they tried to use foreign passports to circumvent the Israeli government’s ban on all citizens traveling to a high-risk destination for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 29 more Israeli passengers were reportedly removed from other flights to Russia for the same reason.

The Israeli government currently lists six countries, including Russia, as high-risk destinations for COVID-19 and forbids Israelis from visiting unless they get a special permit.

The other five countries are Mexico, India, South Africa, Brazil and Argentina. Enditem
