JERUSALEM, June 8 (Xinhua) — The world’s largest scanned placenta repository will be established at the Wolfson Medical Center in Israel, said a statement issued by the hospital on Thursday.

The scanned database will make it possible to decipher new pathologies and even predict future pregnancy complications, added the state-owned hospital located in the central Israeli city of Holon.

The Wolfson Medical Center has already kept more than 100,000 samples of placental pathology, taken over the last 20 years from women who suffered from various pregnancy complications, including preeclampsia, premature births, growth disorders, diabetes, and more.

The scanning work will be carried out thanks to a government research grant received by the medical center, which amounts to 1.5 million shekels (410,516 U.S. dollars).

Then, using artificial intelligence and without human contact, it will be possible to perform the diagnoses and predictions, the hospital said. Enditem
