ISTANBUL, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) — Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was elected on Thursday to the post of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) president.

The announcement was made at the three-day meeting of the 89th General Assembly of the global crime fighting agency in Turkey’s financial and cultural hub Istanbul.

“Mr. Ahmed Nasser AL RAISI of the United Arab Emirates has been elected to the post of President (4-yr term),” Interpol said on Twitter.

Al-Raisi is an Emirati general and the inspector general of the UAE’s interior ministry.

The meeting kicked off on Tuesday, intending to address global security threats as well as to have executive committee elections.

Interpol’s general assembly meets once a year to make “decisions affecting general policy, the resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances, and programs of activities,” according to Interpol. Enditem
