NEW DELHI, July 19 (Xinhua) — The session of both houses of the Indian parliament — Rajya Sabha (Upper House) and Lok Sabha (Lower House) were adjourned on Monday following protests from opposition lawmakers over various issues including price hike, COVID-19 management and farmers’ agitation.

The 26-day monsoon session of parliament began on Monday but both houses were forced to adjourn it for multiple times before finally adjourned it for the complete day.

Officials said the two houses will reconvene at 11:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday.

Ahead of the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government was ready to answer all questions.

“The government is ready with the answers. Please ask us tough questions, ask again and again, but also give us time to respond in a peaceful manner,” Modi told the media.

The session, the second in a year where elected representatives meet in the parliament, is scheduled to conclude on August 13. Enditem
