NEW DELHI, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — India recorded 5,108 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,510,057, showed the federal health ministry data released on Wednesday.

With the reporting of fresh cases, India’s active caseload currently stands at 45,749.

The country also logged 31 more COVID-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 528,216 since the beginning of the pandemic, the health ministry said.

With the newly reported COVID-19 cases, the daily positivity rate stands currently at 1.44 percent and the weekly positivity rate at 1.70 percent, the ministry data showed.

The ministry said that so far 43,936,092 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals in India, including 5,675 new recoveries.

According to the health ministry, there have been 2,156,706,574 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the South Asian country.

At present, the Indian government is focusing its anti-coronavirus efforts on improving the booster dose coverage as uptake for the third dose has been low in the country. Enditem
