BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) — Guangzhou FC player Asqer Afrden has been suspended for three matches for elbowing in a Chinese Super League (CSL) game.

Afrden was fined 30,000 yuan (some 4,5000 US dollars) in addition to the suspension, according to a statement released by the Chinese Football Association on Thursday.

He was sent off for elbowing an opposition player in the injury time of the Guangzhou side’s 1-0 win over Hebei FC on Monday.

The cash-strapped Guangzhou team, formerly known as Guangzhou Evergrande, won only two games, both against Hebei FC, and lost eight in its first 10 CSL matches. Enditem
