Gremio beat Flamengo, eye top four

Everton Soares gave the visitors the lead just before halftime but second-half goals from Aldemir Ferreira, Nathan Fernandes and Andre Henrique set the hosts on course for victory.
RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) — Gremio kept alive their hopes of a top-four finish by coming from behind to secure a 3-2 home win over Flamengo in Brazil’s Serie A championship on Wednesday.
Everton Soares gave the visitors the lead just before halftime but second-half goals from Aldemir Ferreira, Nathan Fernandes and Andre Henrique set the hosts on course for victory.
Luiz Araujo pulled a goal back for Flamengo in the 89th minute but it was too little too late as Gremio ended a three-game losing run with their 14th win of the campaign.
The Porto Alegre outfit remain sixth in the 20-team standings with 47 points from 29 outings, 12 points behind leaders Botafogo. Flamengo are fourth with 50 points.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Wednesday, Atletico Mineiro won 2-1 at Bragantino, Athletico Paranaense prevailed 3-2 at home to America Mineiro, Fluminense won 5-3 at home to Goias, Cruzeiro cruised to a 3-0 home win over Bahia, Palmeiras romped to a 5-0 home win over Sao Paulo and Corinthians clinched a 1-0 victory at Cuiaba.
