DOHA, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) — German coach Hansi Flick said on Saturday that his side will go into Sunday’s vital World Cup Group E match against Spain, looking to provide the “right answer” to the question of whether or not they are good enough to continue in the Qatar World Cup.

Germany’s 2-1 defeat to Japan means defeat to Spain will almost certainly see them crash out of the tournament at the group stage for the second successive World Cup, in what would be a huge blow to the footballing pride of a nation with four titles in their history.

When asked in his pre-game press conference if Germany were good enough to continue, Flick replied, “This will be answered on Sunday. Maybe we have another answer to that question, the right answer.”

He said his side wanted “to avoid a repeat” of their disappointment in Russia.

“The focus is on concentration. This is the first final for us at the World Cup and that’s what it’s about – to avoid a repeat of that,” he said.

The coach insisted he would stick by the style of play that saw them dominate possession against Japan but fail to take their chances.

“I am convinced of the idea of how we want to play,” he commented, but explained, “if we are not 100 percent, then we give the opponent space, that’s what we did against Japan,” admitting the defeat had hurt more “because it was avoidable.”

“We will continue down our road because we believe in the quality of the team and that it can apply the things we want. We have courage and belief going into the game,” asserted Flick, who was unsure whether injured winger, Leroy Sane would be fit to play. Enditem
