TALUQAN, Afghanistan, July 22 (Xinhua) — Heavy rains and flash floods have rendered huge property damages in Afghanistan’s Panjshir and Takhar provinces, officials said Friday.

Mohammad Akram, an official with the Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs of Panjshir province, said heavy rain and flash flood swept out several gardens, farmlands and bridges in Nawabad and Abrina villages of Abshar district on Thursday night.

The official did not specify whether there was any loss of life, saying property damages were too huge to survey. However, he said a survey was underway to identify the affected families.

Similarly, downpour and flooding badly damaged parts of Ashkamish district of northern Takhar province on Thursday night.

A district official, Noor Alam, said a survey had been initiated to determine the damage of property and possible loss of life caused by the flooding.

About 400 people reportedly have lost their lives due to monsoon rains and flooding in Afghanistan over the past month. Enditem
