LONDON, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) — Premier League strugglers Everton on Monday confirmed former Burnley coach Sean Dyche as the replacement for Frank Lampard.

Dyche becomes Everton’s seventh coach since Farhad Moshiri took over the club just under seven years ago and he will have the task to get them out of the relegation zone and given an identity that has been missing in recent seasons.

The 51-year-old takes over a club that has not won a league match since October, where the atmosphere between the supporters and directors has become increasingly tense since the turn of the year.

“I know about Everton’s passionate fanbase and how precious this club is to them. We’re ready to work and ready to give them what they want. That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to some of the basic principles of what Everton Football Club has stood for for a long time,” said Dyche.

The coach spent 10 years with Burnley, before leaving following their relegation at the end of last season. Despite that relegation he did a fine job in taking a small club to the Premier League on two occasions, and keeping them up between 2016 and 2022.

“We want to bring back a good feeling. We need the fans, we need unity and we need everyone aligned. That starts with us as staff and players,” he said.

“Our aim is to put out a team that works, that fights and wears the badge with pride. There is quality in this squad. But we have to make them shine. That’s the job of me and my staff,” added Dyche on the Everton website.

The former Burnley man has a tough start to his reign at Goodison Park with a home match against Premier League leaders Arsenal on February 4. Enditem
