ISLAMABAD, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) — The death toll from this season’s monsoon rain and flood since mid-June has risen to 1,700 along with 12,867 injured in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Thursday night.

According to a report released by the NDMA, 632 children and 340 women were among those who lost their lives in separate rain or flood-related accidents in the country.

The country’s southern Sindh province was the worst-hit region, where 763 people were killed, followed by southwest Balochistan province with 336 deaths, while northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and eastern Punjab provinces reported 308 and 221 deaths, respectively.

Additionally, 2,048,789 houses have been destroyed, while an estimated 1,163,237 livestock animals have perished in the rains across the country, it said.

Rescue and relief operations by the NDMA, other government organizations, volunteers and non-government organizations were underway in the flood-hit area. Enditem
