ZAGREB, June 15 (Xinhua) — Croatia’s inflation rate reached a record 10.8 percent in May, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (CBS) said on Wednesday.

The figure was the highest since 2004, when the CBS started measuring personal consumption expenditures.

The year-on-year increase in consumer prices was the highest in transport, 19 percent, followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages (15.2 percent), restaurants and hotels (12.1 percent), furnishing and household equipment (11.7 percent), and water, electricity, gas and other fuels (9.2 percent).

The previous record inflation spike was in April 2022, when the figure reached 9.4 percent, the highest since 2008.

Croatia’s Finance Minister Zdravko Maric told reporters on Wednesday that the situation was very complex and that it was difficult to make predictions for the rest of the year. “We have to be ready for everything,” he said. Enditem
