RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — Former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Willian has revealed plans to leave Brazilian giant Corinthians as he seeks a return to Europe.

Willian has made 45 appearances and scored just one goal since joining Corinthians on a free transfer last August.

“I know my performances haven’t been what was expected but I’ve never been a player to score 20 or 30 goals a season,” the 34-year-old told Brazilian television.

Willian, who is tied to Corinthians until December next year, is expected to have his contract rescinded by mutual consent in the coming days.

The Brazil international cited family reasons for his desire to join a European club and denied speculation of a rift with Corinthians manager Vitor Pereira.

Willian made his professional debut for Corinthians in 2006 before moving to Shakhtar Donetsk the following year. He has also had spells with Anzhi Makhachkala and Chelsea – where he spent seven years – and Arsenal. Enditem
