ZHUJI, China, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) — The Guangdong Southern Tigers defeated the Liaoning Flying Leopards 108-99, while the Zhejiang Golden Bulls stunned the Beijing Ducks 94-88 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Wednesday.

Marshon Brooks scored seven points while assisting Yi Jianlian’s three pointer to lead Guangdong to a 10-4 start, and the team had an eight-point cushion in the first quarter.

Liaoning managed to cut the deficit in the third quarter, but Guangdong again enlarged their lead to secure the victory.

“Liaoning is a very strong team with many national team members. As our shooting guard Zhao Rui was not able to play today, veteran Yi Jianlian decided to play tonight with injury, which truly inspired our young players,” commented Guangdong coach Du Feng.

Former NBA player Yi had 11 points and six rebounds in 22 minutes. Brooks had a game-high 36 points.
