BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 13 (Xinhua) — Brunei reported 270 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total tally to 144,136.

Among the new cases, 268 cases were detected through rapid antigen tests and two cases through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) laboratory tests conducted in the past 24 hours.

Brunei has recorded less than 1,000 new cases for 51 straight days since March 24 after the daily case hike in the current third wave of infections reached its peak on March 3, at 4,885 cases.

As of May 12, 68 percent of Brunei’s 420,000 population have received three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The COVID-19 vaccines by Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and China’s Sinopharm have been those administered in the Southeast Asian country.

Currently, 1,598 active cases are being treated and monitored in Brunei, where 142,318 recoveries from COVID-19 have been reported. Enditem
