RIO DE JANEIRO, June 13 (Xinhua) — Botafogo fell to their fourth successive defeat with a 1-0 home loss to Avai in Brazil’s Serie A championship on Sunday.
Kevin Silva put the visitors ahead with a free-kick that left Botafogo goalkeeper Roberto Fernandez with no chance just before halftime.
Botafogo dominated possession and had more shots on goal but were unable to find a way past Avai’s last line.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men when Bruno Silva was shown a straight red card in second-half stoppage time.
The result leaves Avai 10th in the 20-team standings with 14 points from 11 matches. Botafogo are 17th, two points further back. Enditem
