ISTANBUL, June 28 (Xinhua) — At least six people have died and 19 others have been hospitalized because of bootleg alcohol poisoning in Turkey’s northwestern province of Tekirdag for the last five days, local media reported on Monday.

Haberturk Daily said during operations launched in the province, police teams have so far detained seven suspects in connection with bootleg alcohol producing and selling, banned by law, and seized 200 liters of fake liquor.

It added that 16 of the 19 are now in the intensive care units of a hospital in the Corlu district and eight of them are in critical condition.

In October 2020, more than 40 people died after consuming bootleg alcohol in several Turkish provinces. Enditem
