BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) — Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.51 percent, at 3,676.59 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.07 percent higher at 14,702.90 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices reached over 1.4 trillion yuan (about 217.3 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.43 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.

Stocks related to the chemical industry led the gains, while those related to bio-pharmaceuticals led the losses.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.72 percent to close at 3,251.49 points Tuesday. Enditem
