TOKYO, July 3 (Xinhua) — Torrential rain caused a large mudslide in Atami city of Shizuoka Prefecture in central Japan on Saturday, possibly sweeping away some 20 people and destroying at least 10 houses, local authorities said.

A rescue operation is underway in the slide-hit area in Atami and the situation of the victims is not immediately known, according to local government.
