TEHRAN, March 22 (Xinhua) — At least 14 people were killed and 34 others injured in two road accidents in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan over the past 24 hours, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.

In one of the incidents, 11 people died and one sustained injury in a collision between two sedans on the road from Khash County to the provincial capital of Zahedan on Tuesday night, Fariborz Rashedi, the head of the emergency medical services center of Zahedan University of Medical Sciences, was quoted by Tasnim as saying.

In the other incident, three people were killed and 33 others were injured as a bus overturned on the road from Iranshahr to Nik Shahr on Tuesday night, Alireza Irandegani, the head of the medical emergency services center of Iranshahr University of Medical Sciences, told Tasnim.

He cited slippery road conditions due to rainfall as the cause of the accident, noting that the injured have been transferred to medical centers.

Intercity travels often surge around the Nowruz holidays (from March 21 to April 2), which marks the arrival of the new year in Iran.

Speaking in a live televised interview on Wednesday, head of the Iranian Traffic Information and Control Center Ahmad Shirani said 325 people have been killed in 267 car crashes in the country over the past seven days amid the new year travel rush, according to Iran’s IRIB news agency. Enditem
