MUMBAI, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — One person died after a major fire broke out on the 19th floor of a high-rise building in central Mumbai, India’s financial capital, on Friday.

Footage on social media showed a man falling from the 19th floor of the building that was engulfed in flames. The man aged 30, a security personnel from the building, was killed and his body was brought to the city’s civic hospital.

Twenty-six people were safely rescued, and a probe has been ordered, said Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Chahal on a tour to the residential tower after cooling operations by firefighters.

The fire-brigade tagged it as “level-4” (major) fire, which was brought under control by 14 fire tenders that were deployed to fight the blaze in the 61-story high-end luxury residential tower.

The cause of the blaze, primarily believed to be caused by short-circuit, is being probed.

Residents said the building reportedly has all fire-safety measures in place and a mock-drill for fire incidents was conducted on Oct. 1. Enditem
