CAPE TOWN, April 21 (ANA) – Ghanaian actress Rosemond Brown, who was last week sentenced to 90 days in prison for an Instagram post where she posed naked next to her 7-year-old son in June 2020, has been granted bail of 80,000 Ghanaian cedi (US$13,841) by an Accra High Court on Wednesday.

Modern Ghana reports that she was sentenced by the Accra Circuit Court on April 16 based on what the court deemed the publication of “obscene material and domestic violence”.

According to the Guardian Nigeria, Child Rights International, a child rights organisation, petitioned the Ghanaian Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to look into the matter.

The organisation said in a statement: “As a child rights organisation, we deem this act as a violation of the Welfare Principle of the Children’s Act and abuse of the child’s rights to privacy and dignity. We wish to notify your esteemed office to investigate the taking of the said images and its circulation.”

The picture, which has since been deleted, showed Brown squatting down naked while holding hands with her son in celebration of his seventh birthday in June 2020, according to local reports.

In addition to the bail, she will also have to report to the case investigator every two weeks, while her passport has been seized by the registrar of the court.

Modern Ghana reports that on April 19, her lawyer filed a notice of appeal and application for bail against the actress’s custodial sentence, claiming that it was too harsh.

He also applied for bail for Brown pending a determination of the appeal, according to reports.

According to Pulse.com, Child Rights International has warned that it will soon take legal action against more Ghanaians, including those referred to as celebrities, who have been using their underage children on social media for commercial purposes.
