CAPE TOWN, June 24 (ANA) – The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has announced that parts of the country’s capital Accra will experience scheduled power outages for 22 days from next Monday until July 19 to allow for maintenance work.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ECG said it, in collaboration with the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDco), would implement the interruptions to power supply to facilitate the work of contractors aimed at improving electricity reliability and system voltages.

The scheduled maintenance work, including that by GRIDCo to complete the last phase of repairs on bulk supply points and transmission cables in Accra, will affect residents between the hours of 6pm and midnight on each of the scheduled days.

The power distributor said load to the Trasacco Bulk Supply Point (BSP) would be managed to enable the construction of towers at the Volta, Accra East and Achimota substations and to complete the stringing and commissioning of a new double circuit 161kv Volta-Achimota transmission line.

The exercise will cause an interruption in power supply to some 71 communities within the West African country’s capital city, the utility added.

The last phase of the repair and upgrade work will see an upgrade to the Volta-Achimota-Mallam transmission lines.

ECG managing director oKwame Agyeman-Budu called on the electricity consuming public to bear with the company as it worked to ensure an improved service to Ghanaians, news website Citinewsroom reported.
