CAPE TOWN, April 19 (ANA) – The German government has picked Ghana as the location for the West African Centre for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention.

German ambassador to Ghana, Christoph Retzlaff, made the announcement on April 15 on Twitter.

The announcement came days after American microblogging and social networking service Twitter announced that it will open its African headquarters in Ghana.

The social media giant said that as a champion for democracy, Ghana was a supporter of free speech, online freedom and the Open Internet, of which Twitter was also an advocate.

Furthermore, Retzlaff said the Ghanaian centre was one of eight worldwide to fight global challenges.

Ghana and Germany enjoy close bilateral ties in a variety of fields and Germany remains an important trading partner for Ghana.

In other news, Germany and Ghana have announced the signing of a 20-million Euro grant-agreement to provide technical cooperation in the areas of Agribusiness and Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.

According to international media reports, Germany, through GIZ, a German development agency, will partner with the Ghanaian Government to implement the two projects.

According to Business24 Ghana, the Agribusiness programme will support the Government of Ghana’s efforts to boost the dynamic agro-processing sector with a high potential for growth.

Furthermore, the project on energy will support the Government of Ghana to bring more renewable energy to the country and improve energy efficiency in industry, households and public buildings, writes Business24.
