JOHANNESBURG, May 4 (ANA) – The Confederation of African Football (Caf) president Patrice Motsepe on Monday met with the Ivorian Football Federation, with an ‘important announcement’ promised in the coming days.

Motsepe arrived in Abidjan for a two-day visit, which also included meeting with Federation of International Football Associations (Fifa) president Gianni Infantino.

According to Caf, Motsepe began his visit to Abidjan with an internal meeting with the members of his delegation composed mainly of his vice-presidents.

He then had an ‘important working session’ with members of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) Normalisation Committee, before having a meeting with his Special Advisor, Ambassador Jacques Anouma.

Joined on Monday evening by Infantino and Fifa secretary general Fatma Samoura, Motsepe attended a dinner in his honour organised by the Ivorian Minister for the Promotion of Sports and the Development of Sports Economics, Paulin Claude Danho.

Tuesday is reported to be a busy day for the entire delegation, with a visit to the headquarters of the FIF and an ‘important press briefing’ by Motsepe.

The Caf and Fifa delegation will then be received by Minister Claude Paulin Danho, before having an audience with the President of the Republic of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara.

Motsepe was appointed as Caf president in March, and as a mining magnate in South Africa he brings unique business experience to the role.

He said Caf would need the assistance from the private sector to sponsor African football, and through that increase the sponsorship for the Africa Cup of Nations. He also said sponsorship needed to be increased for the African Champions League. – African News Agency (ANA), Editing by Michael Sherman
