Two Spanish journalists and an Irish director of a wildlife foundation were killed in an ambush in eastern Burkina Faso on Monday by gunmen near Pama Reserve, the Spanish government and Burkinabé officials confirmed, according to local and international media reports.

The Irish citizen murdered in Burkina Faso was working in anti-poaching operations, according to Irish media outlet The Journal.
They and a member of the Burkinabé armed forces went missing on Monday after a morning attack on their convoy of security forces, forest rangers and the three Europeans, according to the Burkinabé government.
One person told Africanews: “Terrorists plunge Burkina into mourning, they kill Burkinabé, they kill foreigners, it is not normal, we condemn this barbaric act.”
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. The attackers used two trucks and about 12 motorbikes, according to security sources.
According to the BBC, the West African country is facing a deepening security crisis, as are many of its neighbours, as Islamist armed groups carry out raids and kidnappings across much of the region.
