South Africa’s confirmed Covid-19 cases rise to 421,996, deaths to 6343

PRETORIA, July 25 (ANA) – As of Friday, the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in South Africa was 421,996, with 13,944 new cases identified. The number of Covid-19-related deaths increased by 250, bringing the total to 6343, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said.

The provincial breakdown was as follows: 

Eastern Cape – 71,338 (17.0 percent)

Free State – 14,542 (3.0)

Gauteng – 153,020 (36.0)

KwaZulu-Natal – 57,162 (14.0)

Limpopo – 6394 (2.0)

Mpumalanga – 9756 (2.0)

North West – 16,548 (4.0)

Northern Cape  – 3175 (1.0)

Western Cape – 90,011 (21.0 percent)

Unknown – 50 (0.0)

A total of 2,684,488 tests had been processed to date, of which 52,382 had been conducted since the previous report on Thursday.

“Regrettably we report 250 new COVID-19 related deaths – 13 from the Eastern Cape, 139 from Gauteng, 50 from KwaZulu-Natal, 47 from the Western Cape, and one from the Free State. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 6343. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased. The number of recoveries currently stands at 245,771 which translates to a recovery rate of 58 percent,” Mkhize said.

Free State – 63 and 1873

Gauteng – 1324 and 82,126

KwaZulu-Natal – 565 and 18,786

Limpopo – 33 and 3022

Mpumalanga – 52 and 4403

Northern Cape – 23 and 1177

Western Cape – 2827 deaths and 73,897 recoveries
