KEETMANSHOOP, 28 MAY (NAMPA) – Former Bishop Emeritus of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia, Dr Hendrick Frederick will be laid to rest on Sunday at Bethanie in the ||Kharas Region.

Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology, in a media statement on Friday, said the burial will be held at the Schmelen Dorp Cemetery in Bethanie while the memorial service will be held on Saturday at the village’s sports stadium.

“The ministry would like to inform the media and the public that the state funeral will be conducted under strict compliance with the public health COVID-19 general regulations which limit public gatherings to 100 persons per event,” said the statement.

Bishop Frederik who was the first Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia, reportedly succumbed to COVID-19 complications on 15 May 2021 in the Keetmanshoop State Hospital at the age of 80. Frederick is also known to have played a vital role in the liberation struggle of Namibia.

Last week President Hage Geingob conferred an official funeral status on the late bishop.
