China national Lu Ke, commonly known as Susu, Thursday failed to take plea at the magistrate’s court in Lilongwe after the State informed the court that they were not ready with some disclosures.

Senior State Advocate Sarah Mwangonde asked the court to adjourn the matter to a later date, saying the State was expected to bring to court additional disclosures within seven days.

Apart from racism, Susu is also facing three fresh charges of money laundering, procurement of a child to perform in public and cyber security crime.

Defense lawyer Andy Kaonga agreed with the State’s proposal but asked the court that Susu would not take plea in the absence of the disclosures and screening of the amended charge sheet.

Senior Resident Magistrate James Mankhwazi has since adjourned the case to August 19, 2022.

Mankhwazi then ordered the State to submit the disclosures by the time the court will be meeting.

Susu has since been remanded to Maula Prison awaiting for the next appearance in court when he is expected to take plea.

The Chinese fled to Zambia late last month after it was discovered that he had filmed children chanting racist slogans in Chinese language at Lilongwe’s Njewa area.

The BBC had exposed the alleged acts in a documentary titled ‘Racism for sale’.

He was arrested in Chipata, Zambia, before he was released on bail by a magistrate’s court, after which he was extradited to Malawi.
