FDH Bank Cup kings Silver Strikers have disclosed that they are yet to decide on whether to participate in next year’s Caf Confederations Cup.

This was disclosed during a press conference held in Lilongwe on Friday.

Silver Chief Executive officer Thoko Chimbali said it was not certain that the team would participate in the competition after pulling out at the eleventh hour due to several reasons last year.

“Our participation in Caf tournament will depend on the availability of funds. At the moment, management is yet to sit down and come up with a decision,” said Chimbali, who was accompanied by director Mayamiko Mwinjiro.

By virtue of being FDH Bank Cup champions, the Bankers will be allowed to take part in the continental second-tier club competition whereas Nyasa Big Bullets are likely to take part in Caf Champions League for being TNM Super League champions.

Last year, Silver pulled out of the competition citing lack of a Caf A coach as the main reason.

Coach Daniel Kabwe holds Caf B and Uefa B licenses.

Caf set Caf A as a minimum requirement for all head coaches in Caf competitions and Caf B for assistant coaches.

Then, Silver had Macdonald Mtetemera, who has a Caf A coaching licence but he was suspended few weeks before the kick-off of the tournament.

Caf has also set the requirement of having a women’s football team for all teams interested in participating in next year’s edition.

Chimbali said Silver had plans to set up a women’s football team in line with Caf requirements.

“This is one of the projects we intend to embark on very soon. We will see what will happen,” he said.

The club had a successful season after finishing as runners up in the TNM Super League and the Airtel Top 8 Cup to Bullets.

Silver participated in the Caf Champions league in 2018 but exited in the preliminary round after losing 4-3 to ASC of Gabon on post-match penalties after 1-1 on aggregate.

Bullets took part in the 2021 Caf Champions League but also exited in the preliminary round after 3-2 defeat to DStv Premiership side AmaZulu FC.

Meanwhile, Bullets Administrator Albert Chigoga has said they will announce the decision soon.

“We will most likely make it known once the decision is made by the club somewhere in early January 2022,” he said.
