Out-of-school children in Malawi are expected to benefit from a ‘Back to School’ project being implemented by Education Above All Foundation, a Qatari organisation, in partnership with First Lady Monica Chakwera’s Shaping Our Future Foundation, among others.

This came to light on Wednesday evening, when the First Lady engaged with Fahad Hamad Hassan Al- Sulaiti, Chief Executive Officer for Education Above All Foundation, on the sidelines of the Least Developed Countries conference in Doha, Qatar.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Minister of Education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima said Chakwera and Education Above All officials discussed projects being run in Malawi and new opportunities.

She said the organisation is running several projects with partners in Malawi.

“They are known in Malawi as ‘Educate a Child’. They are building classrooms in some districts in the country and they also have programmes where they make sure that students do not drop out of school,” the minister said.

Speaking after the meeting, Al-Sulaiti said the organisation has made a commitment to bring a new programme to Malawi after completion of two other projects in the country.

Cumulatively, the projects cost about $11 million.

“We are committed now to around 55,000 out-of-school children in Malawi and we are looking for future projects hoping that we can make an impact and we can work very closely with government and partners on the ground to make a difference there,” he said.
