Sixteen residents of Mpingwe in Blantyre are demanding K2.5 million each from one Muhammed Hussein for allegedly contaminating water as he was repairing a sewage system.

The incident is said to have occurred from 12 March to 22 March this year.

The residents have made the demand through their lawyer Charles Chayekha of MC and Company Law Consultants.

“Our clients state that you engaged people to repair a sewage system at your flats in Mpingwe and in the process the people damaged a Blantyre Water Board pipe which supplies our clients’ houses. As a result, the sewage substance percolated into the water system and our clients used the water in various ways,” read part of the letter addressed to Hussein.

But according to a letter penned by Hussein’s lawyer Luciano Mickeus which we have seen, the defendant has denied the allegations.

“Please take note that our client does not supply water to any of the purported clients,” says the letter.

When contacted, Mickeus said he could not comment further as they already made their position known on the matter.

Blantyre Water Board spokesperson Evelyn Khonje expressed ignorance on the issue.
