Police at Muloza in Mulanje are keeping in custody a 27-year-old man, Zakariya Njazi, for allegedly trafficking three women.

Mulanje Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Leah Kambalame identified the three as Juliet Guba, 23, Esther Moyo, aged 20 and Felesiya Josamu, aged 24.

Njazi was nabbed following a search by security personnel responsible for border security.

“We intercepted the suspect who was trying to cross over to Mozambique using unchartered routes with the said women who had no travel documents.”, Kambalame explained.

She added that Njazi promised them jobs when they go to Mozambique.

Njazi has since been charged with Trafficking in Persons contrary to section 14 of the Trafficking in Persons Act.

Njazi hails from Chendausiku Village in the area of Traditional Authority Msamala in Balaka.
