Jordanian Pro League side Al Hussein Irbid SC have released Flames defender Lawrence Chaziya at the end of his 10-month contract.
The Flames defender returned home on Monday afternoon.
This means the 24-year-old defender is a free agent and could be hunting for a new club.
In an interview Tuesday, Chaziya said there was no chance to extend the deal.
“The agreement was very clear that, at the end of my contract, they would not renew it. For now, I have not made up my mind on my next step. I am waiting to hear from my agent,” blossoming defender said.
Chaziya was the most sought after defender after his impressive performance for the Flames during the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals in Cameroon early this year.
He was also linked with three domestic giants Silver Strikers, Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
Before moving to Jordan, Chaziya was playing for Civil Service United.
However, he ruled out the possibility of an immediate return to his former club.
“It is time to face new challenges. I will wait for offers and will make a decision with my family,” he said.
Civil General Secretary Ronald Chiwaula said Chaziya has to decide on his future.
“We all know that he is a free agent but we will see what happens. He is a top player; so, many teams will likely be interested in his services,” Chiwaula said.
After the Afcon, Chaziya also had offers from South Africa, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
The defender made his Flames debut in a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe at Afcon when he replaced injured captain Limbikani Mzava in the first half.
He also played in the goal-less draw against Senegal and in the 2-1 loss to Morocco in the round of 16.
Sports analyst Parley Chinyama said it was a lost opportunity for the player.
“I was expecting him to extend the contract with the club. Maybe it was about his performance. But not all is lost; he should humble himself and return to Civil. Another opportunity will come for him,” Chinyama said.
The return of Chaziya means that the number of Flames players plying their trade abroad continues to shrink.
Charles Petro, who is moving to Botosani FC in Romania in January, and Fransisco Madinga (Dira Goli, Georgia) are the only reliable players in Europe.
Striker Gabadinho Mhango is the only Flames player in the DStv Premiership in South Africa whereas Dennis Chembezi and Khuda Muyaba are playing for Black Leopards and Polokwane City, respectively.
