Manjawira Health Centre In-Charge, Innocent Kabudula has urged government to expand the health facility to a community rural hospital, citing they are facing challenges due to lack of space.

According to Kabudula, the situation has negatively affected health service delivery at the facility.

Manjawira Health Centre was opened in 1980 and serves a catchment of 17,000 people.

He said this on Friday, when Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda toured several health facilities in the district.

“As a health facility which provides health service to over 200 patients on daily basis, we need more space to execute our duties effectively as you know that our facility is near the M1 road where it becomes a challenge when we receive victims of a road accident,” he said.

In response, Minister Chiponda said government is committed to improve provision of quality health care in the country.

She among other things revealed government’s ambitions of constructing 900 health posts, a project which she said is currently under way in various districts across the country.

“The working environment in some health facilities is not that good in terms of infrastructure and as government we are fully endorsing the calls for expansion of some heath facilities because these challenges are similar across the country,” Chiponda said.

During the tour, health authorities also asked for the expansion of Dzunje Dispensary to Community rural hospital and Health Centre to enhance service delivery.
