The future of FCB Nyasa Bullets striker Hassan Kajoke is expected to be known by the end of the week after Football Association of Malawi’s (Fam) Player Status Committee conducted a hearing on Silver Strikers’ complaint that the player had signed a contract with them before returning to Bullets.
The hearing took place virtually on Tuesday with all the concerned parties being represented.
During the hearing, Kajoke told the committee that he had indeed travelled to Lilongwe with his manager Ken Mvula where they collected K3.9 million but said he did not know what that money was meant for.
On their part, Silver told the committee that Mvula had signed an affidavit in the presence of lawyer Kubwalo with the Central Bankers’ director
George Chiusiwa confirming that Kajoke had no contract with Bullets.
Another Silver director Chrispine Sibande reiterated the club’s desire to have Kajoke stopped from playing until the matter is resolved.
“It is only fair that the player stops playing until the matter reaches its logical ending. This matter has two sides. The first one is that Silver committed no case in signing Kajoke under Fifa rules Article 18 which clearly stipulates that a player may go into negotiations with another club when he is in the final six months of his contract.
“Secondly, we reminded the committee that in our first submission on the matter, we applied that the player be banned as the case is still underway. It is our hope that this request will be put that into consideration,” Sibande said.
Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said they expect the committee to rule on the matter in the course of the week.
“We had two questions during the hearing. The first one was why did Silver sign our player who was still under contract? We made reference to the Babatunde [Adepoju] case where the same committee faulted us when we signed the player with only days left before expiry of his contract.
“We also learnt that Silver are the ones who enticed the player to join them by, among other things, making frequent phone calls and offering him money,” Chigoga said.
Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said they had reserved ruling on the matter until the end of this week.
“We indeed convened a virtual hearing on the matter on Tuesday and we should be able to come up with the verdict by end of this week,” Gunda said.
Fam Executive Committee member Felistus Dossi chaired the hearing with former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers general secretary David Kanyenda and Christopher Kuyera, also a Fam Executive Committee member, as members.
Silver were represented by directors Peter Masiye and Sibande while Chigoga represented Bullets.
Kajoke was alone when the hearing started with Mvula joining him later.
It is yet to be seen how the ruling will be applied as Kajoke has scored twice for Bullets in TNM Super League matches.
He netted his first goal of the season against Extreme before hitting the back of the net again during Bullets’ match against Moyale Barracks.
Bullets are currently leading the Super League log table with 13 points from five fixtures while Silver are second with 10 points from four matches.
